Earthquake Safety
Furniture: Secure the tops of all top-heavy furniture, such as bookcases, to a stud in the wall.
Hanging objects: Ceiling fans and lights should be additionally supported with a cable bolted to a ceiling joist, leaving enough slack to allow them to sway.
In your kitchen: Unsecured cabinet doors may fly open allowing glassware and dishes to crash to the floor.
Tabletop objects: TVs, computers, stereos, etc. can be secured with buckles and safety straps attached to the tabletop or with hook and loop fasteners.
Water heater: Make sure it is strapped to the wall. Bracing kits are available in order to do this - check with your local hardware store.
